Croft Farm Sailing

We have a fleet of teaching craft suitable for adults and juniors wishing to learn to sail.

We have a Comet Trio and Duo, ten Topper Topaz,
a fleet of Zephyrs, the new Tera Dinghies, a Topper Sport 14 to teach performance sailing & the use of asymetric spinnakers.

 
         

Croft Farm Sailing Tuition

One-person price for any sailing tuition is £55 for a 2-hour lesson

Taster: 2 hours 2 people £90 3 people £130 4 people £160
The first lesson of the Level 1 course will give you an idea of what sailing is all about but the full course is strongly recommended.

Start to Sail
- Level 1 (4 x 2 hr lesson)

This is the RYA "Start to Sail" course for people with no previous experience. The aim is to provide a taste of dinghy sailing to enable you to sail confidently in light winds under supervision.

The course content includes: Parts of the boat and rigging - Launching and recovery - Wind awareness - Controls of the boat - Sailing across the wind - Sailing upwind and downwind - Tacking and gybing - Sailing a course and capsize recovery.
We will also talk about the theory topics to help you sail safely.

Basic Skills - Level 2
(4 x 2 hr lesson)

Using the same session structure as Level 1, this course will make you more of a competent sailor encompassing more efficient sailing techniques, beach / jetty departure and landings, picking up moorings and capsize recovery.
(Course pre-requisite Level 1)

The RYA "Basic Skills" course will give sailors with some previous experience the practical skills to sail a dinghy without supervision in light winds.

Level 1 & 2 Combination

Seamanship Skills
(4 x 2 hr lesson)

(Course pre-requisite Level 2)

On completion of this course the sailor will be able to feel confident to make the right decision in moderate conditions.
The course content includes: Reefing afloat - Towing - Anchoring - Sail backwards - Sailing without the use of a rudder or centre board.

Sailing with Spinnakers (3 x 2 hr lesson)

3 sessions of 2 hours
(Course pre-requisite Level 2)

The course gives an introduction in how to rig hoist, gybe and drop the spinnaker, also deals with how to use the equipment to best advantage and sailing the best course.
